4 Things To Consider When Choosing A CPAP Cleaner Machine

Blog

If you use continuous positive airway pressure therapy (CPAP) to help with your sleep apnea, it is important to keep the machine as clean as possible. You are breathing air in through the machine all night, and you don't want to be breathing in dirty air. When it comes to purchasing a CPAP cleaner machine, there are some considerations.

Thing #1: The Size of the Cleaner

The actual size of the cleaner can vary greatly. Some cleaners only allow you to clean your mask, and others are large enough so you can clean the other components of your machine at the same time. With some machines, you can put full components inside the cleaner, and with others, you will have to disassemble your CPAP and do a few rounds to clean everything.

If you are keeping the machine stationary in your home, that is probably not a big deal. If you need to travel around, you may want to go with a smaller machine that is more portable.

Thing #2: Ability to Dry

Second, you need to take into account the cleaning machine's ability to dry your CPAP equipment completely. Even a few drops of water inside of your CPAP machine can lead to mold and fungus inside your machine, so you are going to want a device that can clean and effectively dry your equipment.

Thing #3: Mask Capability

Not all CPAP makes are the same size. When looking at CPAP cleaning machines, you will want to measure your mask and check those measurements against the machine measurement.

Verify that the diameter of the hose adapter on the cleaner matches the diameter of your CPAP hosing. Make sure that the cleaning chamber or bag is larger than the size of your mask. You want the cleaning chamber to be slightly larger than the mask, so the entire mask will fit inside the cleaning machines and be adequately sanitized.

Thing #4: Ongoing Costs

When you look at a CPAP cleaning machine, you need to consider the ongoing costs to use the cleaning machine. Do you have to use a special cleaning solution? Do you need to replace the filter or the bags? Find out what the cleaning product costs as well as any replacement parts. You want to make sure the cleaning machine is affordable long-term.

Manually cleaning your CPAP equipment can be challenging. A CPAP cleaning machine can make the cleaning process easier. Consider the cleaning machine's physical footprint, the machine's ability to dry your equipment, the mask capacity size, and the ongoing costs when comparing cleaning machines.
